On Sunday evening, May 8, Ian Brunner, a 22-year-old Mechanical engineering graduate, was conducting extra work under his two-door 1994 Miata when a tool propping up the car fell.

Around 7 p.m., an unnamed 911 caller reported the incident on the 300 block of Irving Avenue.

According to WHIO, the unnamed caller stated, “I’m outside of Campus South Apartments at the University of Dayton.”

‘A car hit a kid, and this jack slid out from underneath him, and he’s imprisoned and not responding.’

Brunner, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died at the site.

The institution asked the community to remember this young man’s family, friends, and loved ones in their prayers.

Brunner’s death was addressed in an email sent by the university at 1 a.m. on Monday.’

Asked about why the institution did not speak on the issue sooner, campus administrators told the TV station that their attention was ‘on the family who is finding out about the loss of their loved one and respecting their grief and their ability to inform direct family members’.

‘This is a process and timeline over which we have no influence,’ said the school. ‘The University has internal support procedures in place that are quickly implemented for people in our community who have been directly impacted by the loss.’

According to rumors, Brunner had restored his vintage black Miata in April.

‘Miata is agony. ‘Miata is love,’ he remarked at the time on Instagram. ‘I just finished a thorough engine rebuild, and it’s performing great now!’ Thank you to everyone who assisted.’
