Rivers: Hoodlums attack NDLEA operatives, free arrested suspect

Hoodlums attacked National Drug Law Enforcement Agency personnel at Odunze road, Mile 3 axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt, freeing an arrested suspect, Izuu Isuofia.

 

On Friday, April 14, three NDLEA officials camouflaged as civilians reportedly went on an operation in the region.

The NDLEA operatives had detained a suspected drug dealer in the area known as ’50’ and were transporting him to a waiting patrol van stationed at an adjacent street along IKwerre Road Iheoma street in Mile 3 Diobu when the authorities were attacked.

According to reports, hoodlums armed with various weapons began pelting stones and bottles at the NDLEA team, injuring some of the cops.

The NDLEA verified the attack on its employees, stating that the culprit, ’50,’ was apprehended with significant amounts of cannabis sativa.

 

In a statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, NDLEA spokesman, Rivers State Command, Emmanuel Ogbumgbada, claimed the hoodlums also carried away the narcotics recovered alongside the suspect.

 

The statement, headed ”Mob attack on NDLEA Rivers State Command operatives,” stated the state Commander has ordered the fugitive and his gang members to be apprehended again.

“On the evening of Friday, April 14, 2023, operatives of the NDLEA Rivers state command raided a hangout/drinking joint around Odunze street, mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt, and a suspected drug dealer named Izuu Isuofia popularly known as ’50’ was apprehended with a large quantity of Cannabis Sativa,” the statement read.

“While attempting to move the suspect to the patrol van, he raised alarm and was resisting arrest, resulting in a scuffle, and within minutes, hoodlums in their large numbers attacked our officers with bottles and stones, freeing the already handcuffed suspect and carting away his exhibit before our back-up team arrived.”

“The state Commander, Ahmed Mamuda, has tasked operatives of the Command to deploy all necessary arsenals to ensure that the suspect and his cohorts are arrested and brought to justice.”
