Indecent attire is now forbidden among university students and staff, according to the Service Contract with All Nigerian Directorate of the University of Calabar.

In a statement released on Friday in Calabar, Prof. Patrick Egaga, the director of SERVICOM, announced the restriction.

He said that the institution’s female personnel and most students were wearing indecent, provocative, and out-of-place clothing, which the directors had seen with great alarm.

“Specifically, see-through, transparent, apparels and revealing features are no longer accepted on campus. This includes short skirts or dresses that are below the knee, above the knee, open backs, crop tops, braless tops and gowns, spaghetti fingers, sleeveless tops, handleless gowns, and bikinis.

“Other examples include handless gowns, bum shorts that display the laps, slit skirts, body embraces, V-necks that reveal the breasts, tubes, strip-less, rag jeans, shorts above the knee, sleeveless shirts, singlets, lingerie, saggy pants, and others.

All of those, he said, would no longer be permitted on campus beginning on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. As a result, any student or staff member wearing the aforementioned regalia or paraphernalia would be effectively refused entrance to any university facilities or would face appropriate sanctions.

A task team that combines security and administration would be established to keep an eye on compliance, he said.

He stated that female staff members and students are urged to adopt the vice chancellor’s and her deputies’ sense of style when dressed.

He also urged the male staff members and students to dress like the university’s council chairman, Gen. Martin Luther-Agwai (ret. ), and the registrar, Mr Gabriel Egbe, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
