The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to stop treating security issues in the state lightly.
The party also expressed concern about the insecurity in Osun, particularly before, during, and after the country’s general elections.
Tajudeen Lawal, the party’s acting chairman, said in a statement on Monday that 30 members of the opposition APC were allegedly killed by thugs allegedly sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
While insisting that Governor Adeleke is not doing enough to protect residents’ lives and property, the party lamented that two kidnapping incidents occurred along the Osogbo-Ikirun road in the last week, specifically on Wednesday and Friday.
“At the time of making this statement, the victims were still being held captive, with the exception of a woman whose release was secured by police on Sunday.”
“A compassionate governor would have either condemned the two kidnapping incidents in his territory within three days or rushed back from Abuja as the state’s number one security officer.”
“It is disheartening that, as I speak, Governor Adeleke has made no condemnation of any of the murders that have occurred during his four-month administration.”
“His handling of Osun affairs has demonstrated that governance of a state is not a tea party, which is why making the state a laboratory for greenhorns in the management of human beings and resources is not the best arrangement,” the acting state APC chairman hinted.
The Osun APC justified its claim that thuggery is on the rise by recounting how Governor Adeleke denied being attacked by thugs only to be arraigned in court.
Recall that the Nigeria Police, Osun Command, announced the release of a female passenger who was abducted on Friday along the Osogbo-Ikirun Road.
The Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, also revealed that efforts to secure the release of the other abductees have begun.
Passengers in a commercial vehicle travelling on the Osogbo-Ikirun Road were abducted in the early hours of Friday last week, with the exception of the driver, who managed to flee.
Osun was widely regarded as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria until the 2023 general elections, when pockets of violent attacks were reported.
The Osun East Senatorial District, which included the Ife and Ijesa zones, was the hardest hit in the state.
