The incident occurred in the early morning hours, while over 500 customers waited to enter the bank’s hall.

The security guard, simply known as Obi, enraged customers when he attempted to seize a mobile phone belonging to a female customer who was making a video call inside the bank’s premises.

According to newsmen, the staff accused the female customer, simply identified as Nwanyi Ubakala, of filming chaotic scenes outside the banking hall and uploading them to Facebook or Tik Tok platforms in order to embarrass the bank.

The female customer, on the other hand, denied the accusation, explaining that she was only receiving a video call from a relative and had quickly thrown her phone inside her handbag.

However, the bank staff chastised the woman for allegedly violating existing bank security rules, which prohibit the recording of any type of video in and around the bank’s premises or hall.

The security guard, however, grabbed the female customer’s handbag and demanded that she delete the allegedly offensive videos in his presence or face arrest.

This prompted the woman to raise an alarm, prompting over ten customers, both male and female, to descend on the staff for attempting to molest a woman over a video call.

It took the intervention of other bank security personnel to save their colleague from further abuse.

The drama caused a brief traffic jam in Umuahia’s FMC/Umudike junction area as many motorists slowed to watch the scene.

Before the incident, bank officials informed customers that there would be no cash to pay them for the day because the bank would only offer other services and close at 2 p.m.

Customers were outraged by this announcement, with some accusing the bank of ruining their chances of voting in the Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

This development comes two weeks after another bank security guard was injured while attempting to enter the bank’s hall.
