Whoopi Goldberg has apologized for using an ethnic slur against Romani people on “The View” on March 15.
During a discussion about former President Donald Trump, Goldberg mentioned that some of his supporters believe “he got ‘gy——d’ somehow in the election,” a term for cheating that perpetuates a negative stereotype of Romani people.
Goldberg and her co-hosts were debating whether former President Donald Trump should face criminal charges in connection with the alleged hush money scandal involving Stormy Daniels.
Goldberg apologized online less than an hour after the live show aired. She stated;
“You know, when you get to a certain age, you start using words you remember saying as a kid, and that’s what I did today, and I shouldn’t have.
“I should’ve given it more thought before saying it, but I didn’t. And I should’ve said cheated, but I used another word, for which I apologize.”
This is not the first time Goldberg has been chastised for espousing divisive viewpoints or employing archaic and offensive language on air. She was suspended from “The View” for two weeks early last year after claiming that the Holocaust, which killed six million Jews, was “not about race.”

Goldberg brought it up again in a December interview with the Sunday Times of London, saying that the Holocaust was not “originally about race,” for which she later apologized but received no disciplinary action.
