Police officers from Delta State’s Ekpan Division shot and killed two suspected kidnappers-cum-armed robbers.
The suspects who sustained serious gunshot wounds died before they could be rushed to the hospital following a gun duel with police, according to newsmen
A locally made single barrel rifle, a locally made cut-to-size pistol, three expended cartridges, seven live cartridges, and a native Amulet were recovered from the suspects.
The suspects were terrorizing the Warri and Ekpan communities in Delta State’s Uvwie Local Government Area, according to newsmen.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the report in a statement signed by DSP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer.
He stated that police officers acted based on credible intelligence gathered by the DPO Ekpan Police Station, CSP Rimamchirika Musa Bulus, “about a kidnapping and armed robbery gang that has been terrorizing Warri, Ekpan, and environs.”
“One of the suspects was duped by police operatives into believing he was discussing with a potential buyer for one of the suspected stolen vehicles in their possession,” Edafe says.
“Unaware of what was to come, the suspect led the police to their hideout at Ohorhe community along Sapele Effurun.
“Upon arrival at the hideout, the suspects on sighting and noticing that they have been rounded by the Police engaged them in a serious gun duel. Two of the suspects were killed in the ensuing gun battle, while others escaped. The suspects committed suicide before they could reach the hospital. In the meantime, the manhunt for the fleeing gang members continues.”
