According to Deadline, the 49-year-old actor was arrested on March 2 in Hudson County, New York, in connection with the alleged theft of the oil, which police estimated was worth more than $1,000.
According to the Ulster Police Department, the actor, who was born in England and raised in Canada, and a man named Oscar Guardado, 30, stole the oil from a storage container by siphoning it from Buffalo Biodiesel, which collects used cooking oil from restaurants in 12 states.
Authorities said the container was kept behind the restaurant Michael’s Diner.
March was best known for his role as Nash Brennan on One Life to Live from 2005 to 2008.
March, who has also appeared on As the World Turns, Mutant X, and All My Children, and Guardado were both released from custody after being arrested, according to police.
Both men are scheduled to appear in Town of Ulster Court on charges of fourth degree grand larceny.
Theft of used oil, which can be used to make biofuels, has increased in the Northeast of the United States in recent years as fuel prices have risen.
According to KTLA, Buffalo Biodiesel president Sumit Majumdar stated in November that the number of oil thefts has been “ballooning” in recent years.
It’s destroying a third of our business,’ Majumdar explained. ‘To put it into numbers, that’s $10 million to $15 million per year.’
March owns The New York Firewood Company, which delivers firewood to homes and restaurants from his’small farm in the Catskills, 10 minutes from the old Woodstock Site,’ according to the company’s website.
‘We currently deliver 4 days per week through all of Central and Northern NJ from Mahwah to the Staten Island line, and once every 2-3 weeks to Monmouth, Burlington, Ocean, and Camden Counties,’ said the company.
‘We deliver to Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Westchester, Bronx, Queens, Richmond, and Nassau counties in New York.’
