Beyoncé: Tottenham Hotspur breaks licence with additional gig

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has broken its licence after selling tickets to a sixth Beyoncé performance this year.

The north London sports club is authorized to perform six concerts at its stadium each year, under existing planning arrangements.

It had tickets on sale for six concerts until Beyoncé revealed the additional date on 7 February.

Dana Carlin, the cabinet member for planning at Haringey Council, said she was “disappointed”.

After Beyoncé’s five performances in May and June, the stadium is slated to host the Red Hot Chilli Peppers on 21 July and Wizkid on 29 July.

That implies the extra tour date for Beyoncé puts the stadium in violation of its licensing agreement.

Stadium management will need to submit another planning application to Haringey Council to accommodate the second sold-out show.

All general admission tickets for the Beyoncé gigs have sold out, with just premium seats beginning at £349 remaining.

Tickets are still on sale for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Wizkid.

Cllr Carlin noted that there was a planning procedure that needed to be followed.

“Welcoming worldwide superstars, like Beyoncé, will attract thousands of music enthusiasts and helps our local companies.”

She stated the effect on local inhabitants “needs to be calibrated against this”.

“We are unhappy that we have arrived at this level.”

“Tottenham Hotspur has been instructed that they must interact with the community, and ward councillors and file a planning application,” she continued.

She said Haringey Council will advise and cooperate with the football club to fix the situation.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has refused to respond.
