This unfortunate incident occurred in late February in front of Bhavnagar’s Bhagwaneshwar Mahadev Temple.
Hetal, the daughter of Jinabhai Rathore, was on her way to marry Vishal, the son of Ranabhai Butabhai Algotar of Nari village.

When the celebrations were forced to end, guests filled the venue, with wedding songs playing in the background.
Hetal reportedly felt dizzy and fainted while performing her wedding rituals.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors determined she died of a heart attack.
Even as the family mourned Hetal’s death, relatives proposed an alternate plan to keep the wedding celebrations going. They proposed that the bride’s younger sister marry Vishal in her place.
Her family agreed to marry her sister to the groom and to carry on the wedding traditions with her younger sister.
According to reports, Hetal’s body was kept in cold storage until the ceremony was over.
Laxmanbhai Rathore, corporator of Bhavnagar city and leader of Maldhari Samaj, described the incident as tragic. He stated that, while the family was shocked by their daughter’s death, members of society persuaded them to set an example and not leave the bridegroom and his family empty-handed.
This isn’t the first time a family has given another daughter away after one died during the wedding ceremony. In June 2021, a family in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, India, gave the groom’s younger sister to him after the bride collapsed during the wedding ceremony.
