The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will on Saturday attend the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in Doha, the capital city of Qatar.
According to the President’s spokesperson, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, the development followed an invitation by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The conference, which runs from March 5 to 9, under the theme: “From Potential to Prosperity,” happens once a decade.
It gives a chance to gain the support of the international community for speeding sustainable development in the LDCs as well as aid them make progress towards reaching prosperity.
According to Shehu, while in Doha, Buhari would restate Nigeria’s commitment to enabling the most vulnerable nations to address their development difficulties.
The presidential aide said that the president will also highlight areas in which the Nigerian government has supplied them with different sorts of help throughout time.
”As most of these countries struggle to find sustainable solutions to the challenges of poverty, adverse effects of climate change, food and energy crisis as well as high-debt burden among others, the Nigerian leader will vigorously reiterate the need for sustainable solutions for countries facing these severe challenges,” he said.
The summit will be attended by international leaders, the corporate sector, civil society and youth groups.
It aspires to exchange developmental ideas and activate political will, solidarity, action and solutions to transform the LDCs, by finding sustainable answers to the difficulties of poverty, food insecurity, hunger and poor or non-existent infrastructure.
The conference will also address the difficulties of insufficient health facilities, and climate change among others as they battle to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
The President’s group includes various ministers and high government officials who are anticipated to take the occasion of the visit to sign certain agreements and Memoranda of Understanding with the Qatari government.
The Nigerian leader is slated to return to the nation on Monday
