Fire burns over 70 shops in Kano market

A fire accident that happened on Wednesday at Kurni Market in Kano, has damaged over 70 shops.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi confirmed the occurrence in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the agency got an emergency contact at approximately 5:23 am from one Aliyu Alkasim regarding the beginning of the fire tragedy.

”Today, Wednesday, March 1, 2023, our control room got an emergency call at roughly 05:23 am from one Aliyu Alkasim. He reported an outbreak of fire at Kurmi Market, Kano Municipal Area”

Abdullahi said shortly after getting the complaint, the agency dispatched its troops to the spot.

”We turned out our personnel from several fire stations throughout the metropolitan region. On their arrival at the site of the event at around 05:27 am, the area impacted by the fire was roughly 160 X 100 feet.”

He started with the effort of their personnel, the service was able to successfully preserve numerous stores inside the market area and no harm was registered and no life was lost.

He added the reason for the occurrence is still under investigation.

He advised the general people to always shut off all electrical equipment and disconnect from the source when not in use and prevent negligent usage of naked fire throughout the market premises.”
