Details emerge as 18 Nigerian nurses involved in fake certificate scandal in the US

The Texas Board of Nursing has charged 18 Nigerian nurses living in Texas, the United States, with obtaining educational credentials fraudulently, gistpeople reports

The Board published the names of 23 people indicted with fake certificates in a statement on its website, 18 of whom were Nigerians. According to the board’s statement, an investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in a large-scale fraudulent diploma/transcript scheme. The suspects obtained fraudulent nursing credentials, which they used to sit for the national nursing board exam, according to the board. It went on to say that because the formal charges filed against the offenders are not a final disciplinary action, they are allowed to work pending the outcome of the charges.

 

According to the statement;

“The Board has filed Formal Charges against the following nurses for obtaining educational credentials fraudulently. The Board has the authority to file Formal Charges against a nurse if there is probable cause that the nurse committed an act listed in Tex. Occ. Code 301.452(b) or another law. 301.458 (Tex. Occ. Code). Furthermore, Formal Charges are made public. 301.466 (Tex. Occ. Code) (b).

Please keep in mind that Formal Charges are not the final disciplinary action, and a nurse may work as a nurse while Formal Charges are pending.”

The Nigerians indicted include Abiodun Yetunde Felicia; Adelakun Abiodun Aveez; Adelekan Joseph Adewale; Adeoye Vivien Temitope; Adewale Modinat Abidemi; Afolabi, Olufemi Toun; Afolabi Omowunmi F; Agbo Odumegwu Steve; Ajibade Charlot Omotayo, Akande Olabisi Christiana; Akhigbe Catherine; Akinrolabu, Folasade Margaret; Ako Esiri Rachael; Akpan Rosemary Moses; Alimi Bukola A; Ani Ndirika Justina; Aroh Nchekwube C.; and Ayodeji Sherifat Olubunmi.

 

Non-Nigerian nurses implicated in the scandal include Abanda Jacob Atambili, Addai Agnes Fosuah, Anaaba Awingrug Musah, Anthony-Annor, and Spendilove, and Asanga, Albert Nshanui.

“This list will be updated as the Board receives additional information about the fraudulent diploma/transcript scheme,” according to the statement.
